How to play Star Battle

Try Star Battle at your own pace and keep its objective in view. Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Use the example below to understand a decision. Begin with the solo mode shown on the page. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Solve ten 6×6 puzzles with one star in every row, column and region. These boards use the one-star rule.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.

Step by step

  1. Tap to place a star, mark a cell or clear it.
  2. Respect fixed starter stars.
  3. Check rows, columns and coloured regions.
  4. Check puzzle verifies the final arrangement.

Controls

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Avoid pressing the same control repeatedly while a move is being processed.

A useful example

A placed star rules out all eight neighbouring squares. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

Different rows do not make diagonal neighbours legal. Check the rule before repeating the action. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
